Evidence-led discovery planning

Plan discovery around the evidence and decisions you still need

Reqify turns your stakeholder register and project context into a structured elicitation plan: interviews, workshops, observation, surveys, document review — with techniques, owners, dates, and a coverage matrix.

  • Stakeholder-by-stakeholder
  • BABOK-aligned techniques
  • Coverage matrix
  • Pre-kickoff ready

Most projects skip the elicitation plan and pay for it later

Discovery without a plan is discovery with gaps. The pattern is familiar: the BA books a few interviews, runs one workshop, and starts writing the BRD when no one is going to push back. Three weeks in, a regulatory stakeholder surfaces a constraint no one captured, scope shifts 20%, and the timeline never recovers.

An elicitation plan is the cheapest insurance against this. It forces the question of who must be heard, by what technique, by when — before discovery starts. Senior BAs do this implicitly. Most teams do not, and rediscover the same gaps every project.

A generic AI document writer cannot help here, because the plan has to be grounded in the actual stakeholder register and project constraints. A generic stakeholder list is worse than no list.

How Reqify produces a usable elicitation plan

Reqify reads your project context — initiation documents, organisation chart, prior projects, stakeholder register if you have one — and emits a structured plan covering: objectives of elicitation, stakeholder map with influence × interest, technique selection per stakeholder (interview, workshop, focus group, observation, prototyping, survey, document analysis), schedule, owner, deliverables, success criteria, and a coverage matrix showing which requirement categories each interaction will surface.

The technique selection is BABOK-aligned and explained. A stakeholder marked for one-on-one interview gets a rationale ("regulatory ownership; low workshop participation likely"). A workshop is scoped with the right participants and a target output. The plan is something a senior BA would sign rather than rewrite.

Where information is missing — an influence-interest gap, a regulatory body whose role is unclear — Reqify flags the gap. The plan tells you both what to do and what is still unknown.

What the plan covers

Stakeholder-by-stakeholder

Each stakeholder mapped to a technique with rationale. Influence × interest grid. Power-mapping considerations called out.

Technique selection

Interviews, workshops, observation, prototyping, surveys, document analysis. The right method for each stakeholder, not "one big workshop".

Scheduled with owners

Dates, owners, prep notes, and dependencies between sessions so workshops follow the interviews that should precede them.

Coverage matrix

A grid showing which requirement categories — functional, non-functional, business rules, compliance — each interaction will surface.

Success criteria

Each elicitation activity has a target deliverable and a definition of done — not "we had a workshop".

Materials checklist

Pre-reads, sample questions, observation templates, and consent notes — generated alongside the plan.

Elicitation plan FAQ

Why is an elicitation plan the first artefact?+

Because every other BA artefact downstream — the BRD, FRD, user stories, business case — is only as good as the inputs that fed it. A documented elicitation plan ensures you have heard the right people on the right topics by the right technique. Skipping it is the single most common cause of scope churn three weeks into a project.

What techniques does Reqify recommend?+

The BABOK-aligned set: structured interviews, facilitated workshops, focus groups, observation, prototyping, surveys / questionnaires, document analysis, and benchmarking. Each stakeholder is mapped to one or more techniques with a rationale and an owner.

How does it know my stakeholders?+

From the stakeholder register or organisation chart you upload, plus references in the project initiation documents and any prior projects. If the stakeholder list is thin, Reqify flags the gap and suggests categories of stakeholders typically present for a project of that type.

Will this work before discovery has started?+

Yes — that is the point. The elicitation plan is the pre-discovery artefact. The richer your initiation files, the better the plan; minimal inputs still produce a usable starting plan that you refine in the editor.

How is this different from a project plan?+

A project plan covers delivery; an elicitation plan covers discovery. Reqify generates both — the elicitation plan focuses on how requirements will be uncovered before any backlog exists.
